How Rankings Work
Rankings in Torneos MVP are calculated automatically from tournament results. Every time a match finishes in a tournament linked to a ranking, player positions update — no manual work required.
What is a ranking?
A ranking is a standing table for your community. It tracks players' performance over time across multiple tournaments. Rankings can be public (visible to anyone) or private (community members only).
Key concepts
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ranking | The main standing table — e.g., "2025 National Singles Ranking" |
| Ranking Modality | A specific division within a ranking, defined by modality (singles/doubles), gender, and age category |
| Points (Balance) | The points a player earns or loses from a tournament. The balance shows: initial points, change, and final points. |
| Discount Table | Rules that reduce points from older tournaments over time, keeping the ranking current |
| Period Snapshot | A frozen copy of the ranking at a specific date, useful for end-of-season archives |
How points are assigned
- An organizer links a tournament category (Valid) to a ranking modality.
- When a match in that tournament is marked as finished, points are calculated automatically.
- Player positions update across the ranking.
- The balance record shows exactly which tournament and match generated each point change — fully transparent.
Multiple ranking modalities
A single ranking can have multiple modalities running independently:
- U14 Girls Singles
- U14 Boys Singles
- Open Doubles
- Masters 40+ Mixed
Each modality tracks its own set of players and points. Players can appear in multiple modalities simultaneously.
Audit trail
Every player's ranking position is backed by a complete audit trail. Players and administrators can see:
- Which tournaments contributed to the current position
- How many points were gained or lost in each event
- The exact match results behind each point change
This transparency eliminates disputes about ranking positions.
Public ranking pages
If a ranking is public, anyone can:
- View the full standings
- Filter by modality, age category, club, or player name
- Click on a player to see their ranking history
- Share the ranking URL
